
Pioneers Rally to Defeat Sharks 12-10

FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team almost gave away its first win of the season, but the Pioneers rallied for some late offense to pick up the victory. Sacred Heart won a non-conference game against league foe LIU, 12-10, on Wednesday.

Of Note:
Sacred Heart allowed a six-goal lead to slip away as LIU grabbed the advantage, 10-9, on Jake Gillis' goal with 8:17 to play.
Donovan Lacey went coast-to-coast to record the tying goal 89 seconds later. A diving Conor Sullivan scored what proved to be the game-winning goal with just under five minutes remaining.
From there the Pioneers locked it down on defense as the Sharks would only get one more shot the rest of the game. Colton King turned away 15 saves to get the victory.
A pair of Logan Liljeberg goals started a 6-0 run then the senior attacker scored the last goal of the run to put SHU up 8-2 at the 3:33 mark of the second quarter. The Pioneers would only get one goal until Lacey's score in the fourth quarter.
The Sharks had a decided 19-to-6 advantage in faceoffs, but SHU made up for it by forcing the visitors into 24 turnovers and picking up 42 ground balls.
