FAIRFIELD, Conn.- The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team continues their home stretch with a pair of games against AIC starting Friday at 6:05 p.m. at Webster Bank Arena.
Last Time Out... The Pioneers are coming off a 4-2 victory over Army at Webster Bank Arena on Tuesday. Senior
Austin Magera highlighted the victory with one goal and two assists. It was Sacred Heart's first home game since October 30.
Last Meeting... The last time the Pioneers faced the Yellow Jackets came on January 26, 2021. SHU fell to AIC 8-2 as
Kevin Lombardi and
Marcel Godbout were the lone scorers for the Pioneers. SHU leads the overall series 33-26-8.
Scouting The Yellow Jackets... AIC enters the two-game series leading the Atlantic Hockey Association with an 11-9-1 record and a 10-4-0 conference record. The Yellow Jackets are coming off a sweep of Mercyhurst that came on January 14-15. Leading the team on offense is Brian Rigali who leads the team in goals (9), assists (9) and points (9). Standing between the pipes is Alec Calvaruso who tallies a GAA of 2.10 and save percentage of .933. He currently holds a 2-3-0 overall record.
Britt Leading the Defense... Junior transfer
Logan Britt has been a solid addition to the Pioneers squad as he currently leads the team in assists with a career-high 12 on the year. He also leads all AHA defensemen in assists. The Crystal Lake, Ill. native has captured AHA Defensive Player of the Week three times this year including this week as he registered one goal alongside three assists for four points at Bentley. He tallied one goal and one assists in the teams' last victory against Army on Tuesday.
Magera Magic... Senior
Austin Magera has been a big asset to the Pioneers this year as he returned to the ice on January 14 against Bentley. That was the first time the senior has skated since November 6 at Mercyhurst. Since then, he has already registered two goals and three assists for five points. On the year, he has tallied five goals and nine assists for 14 points.
Stealing the Win.. Senior
Ryan Steele sits tied for second in the nation in game-winning goals this year. The senior has four on the season which is a career-high.
Robbins Robbing Goals... Junior
Justin Robbins currently leads Atlantic Hockey with a 2.31 GAA and sits third in the league in save percentage at .914. He has compiled an overall record of 6-4-3 as he picked up his sixth win on Tuesday against Army.
