Pioneers open home play in February
FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University men's and women's tennis team released its spring schedule on Wednesday.
"I'm looking forward to an outstanding spring season playing against some of the top teams in the northeast," said head coach Mike Guastelle. "Our schedule will properly prepare us for our Northeast Conference tournament in April."
The Pioneers open the season with a three-day trip to Army starting on January 27. The women will take on Binghamton, West Point, and Seton Hall during the three-day span, while the men will battle against Army on January 29.
Both teams host their first home match at the Tennis Club of Trumbull in February. The men have a seven-match stretch, beginning with Hofstra on February 5 before hosting LIU for their first NEC match of the season on February 10. The Pioneers end the stand against new league opponent Stonehill on February 25.
The women are at home for three contests, starting with Lafayette on February 12 followed by their first two conference matches against Merrimack on February 19 and Stonehill on February 25.
Both teams host Fairfield at the Tennis Club of Trumbull, with the men on March 8 and the women on March 9. The women have won six of the last 10 meetings with the Stags and look for their first victory since 2018.
The men have an ACC opponent in their slate, as they will travel to Boston College for the team's first meeting since 2019.
The women face two A-10 opponents in UMass (March 11) and Rhode Island (March 26). The Pioneers clinched two of the last five victories against the Rams.
Sacred Heart rounds out the regular season against top NEC opponents. Both teams host FDU on April 1. The Knights claimed the NEC men's tennis title in 2022. The women play two road contests at LIU on April 2 followed by a non-conference match at Stony Brook on April 7. The Pioneers wrap up the regular season at St. Francis Brooklyn on April 8.
