Jeter gives up one run in six innings of work.
The loss dropped SHU to 0-2, the Tommies improved to 1-4.
The scoreboard remained blank until the Tommies snapped the tie off a single in the fifth inning. St. Thomas padded the lead with another RBI single in the eighth.
Starting pitcher Chase Jeter gave up just one run on three hits with four strikeouts. David Aufiero threw the final 2.1 innings with four strikeouts.
SHU's best scoring chance came in the fourth. Ryan Donnelly drew a one-out walk, then stole second, but was stranded in scoring position.
SHU plays game two against St. Thomas on Saturday at 9 a.m. following by a 1 p.m. contest against the University of Richmond.
