Jake Ward earned sixth NEC Rookie of the Week nod
SOMERSET, N.J. – First-year Jake Ward of the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team broke the program record and tied the Northeast Conference Rookie of the Week record with his sixth recognition on Monday. Ward passed Brooks Dutton '20 who set the record in 2015 with five and sits alongside Bryant's Tucker James who first set the conference record in 2014.
Both Player of the Week and Defensive Player of the Week laurels were split. Saint Joseph's Tucker Brown and Merrimack's Jack Rooney share POW, while LIU's Will Mark and Merrimack's Henry Vogt were this week's DPOW.
Ward continued his 10-game point streak on Saturday against Merrimack as he was one of two Pioneers to lead the team with three. The rookie from Highlands Ranch, Colo. netted two goals and dished out one assist. He also matched his career-high of five ground balls.
The Pioneers hit the road for their first of a two-game road stint at Bryant on Saturday at 1 p.m.
