Lake Competes at 2022 IIHF World Championships

Ben Lake’s ’15 second appearance in the tournament
HELSINKI, Finland- Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey alumnus Ben Lake '15 made his second appearance at the International Ice Hockey Federation (IIHF) World Championships for team Great Britain on May 14. To be eligible for the championships, the team had to rank among the top 16 teams in the world. Lake was one of 25 players to be named to the national team.
Away from team Great Britain, Lake plays for the Belfast Giants in the Elite Ice Hockey League and has been floating around the EIHL for the past five seasons.
The Ice Hockey World Championships are an annual international men's ice hockey tournament organized by the International Ice Hockey Federation. First officially held at the 1920 Summer Olympics, it is the sport's highest profile annual international tournament.
Since he went pro in 2015, Lake tallied 99 goals, 143 assists for 242 points including an impressive 2018-19 season with a career-high 34 goals, 43 assists for 77 points. During his time at SHU, the Calgary native skated in 138 games and recorded g 25 goals and 63 assists.
Team Great Britain played in two games so far and recorded two losses. Lake has tallied one goal and one assist at the championships so far. Team Great Britain will return to action on Thursday, May 19 against team USA.
