Pioneers will play seven games at Park Ave Field
FAIRFIELD, Conn.—The Sacred Heart University men's soccer team revealed its 2022 schedule on Monday. The Pioneers will play seven of their 15 contests at Park Ave Field, including four under the lights. SHU's schedule consists of five non-conference teams and three in-state rivalries.
"We are excited to reveal the schedule for our 2022 fall season," said interim head coach Anthony Anzevui. "We have no doubt that our strength of opponents will truly test our grit and caliber and know we have to compete at our very best from day one. We look forward to the challenges ahead and hope to see as many fans at home pushing the program for success."
Park Ave Field got an upgrade during the offseason with the addition of lights. SHU opens the year at home with Siena on Thursday, August 25 at 7 p.m. The Pioneers will also host three night games against Holy Cross (September 3), Army (September 10) and St. Francis Brooklyn (October 13). Sacred Heart will play Army for the first time since 2017.
The Pioneers go on the road at UMass on Monday, Aug. 29 at 4 p.m. Three of SHU's away contests are in-state rivalries with Quinnipiac (September 14), Hartford (September 7) and Central Connecticut State (November 3). The Pioneers earned draws against the Hawks and the Blue Devils last season. SHU and Quinnipiac meet for the second year in a row after not facing each other for nine seasons.
Sacred Heart welcomes Fairleigh Dickinson on September 25 for its conference opener. The Pioneers will then travel to take on defending NEC champion LIU on Sept. 29. Sacred Heart also faces the NEC's newest school, Stonehill, at home on October 16.
