
Women’s Tennis Competes at Army Invitational

Flavia Rambaldi advanced to singles semifinals
WEST POINT, N.Y.— The Sacred Heart University women's tennis team participated in the Army Invitational, September 23-25.
After losing in the main draw, junior Flavia Rambaldi advanced to the semifinals of the "D" Singles Draw thanks to wins over Stony Brook's Sara Annamaria and Quinnipiac's Mira Filiberti.
Four Pioneers won their first round singles match. Junior Katsiaryna Starastsenka posted a score of 6-0, 6-4 against Army's Maria Drobotova. Senior Vitalina Golod notched a singles victory over FDU's Valentina Silva at 6-2, 6-4. Renee Sharma dropped the first set, 1-6, before bouncing back with a 6-1 score in set two and 10-7 in the tiebreaker to beat Fordham's Rachelle Yang. Olivia Kharkover qualified after a walkover win against Villanova's Emily Callahan.
In doubles, Sacred Heart saw two teams win their first rounds. Starastsenka and her partner senior Ciara O'Toole picked up a 6-1 first round win over Seton Hall's Chloe Hamilin and Aina Plana Ventosa. Golod and junior Kim Fenton notched a 6-1 win over Colgate's Addie Eklund and Emily Untermeyer. Both dropped close 7-6 tiebreakers in the second round against Syracuse.
Up next, the Pioneers will travel to Dartmouth for the ITA Regionals, Sept. 30- Oct. 2.
