Lim Wins for First Time in 2023-24; Pios Take Fourth as a Team

Lim finished two strokes clear of his closest competitor to earn medalist honors
LAKE PLACID, N.Y. – Sacred Heart University men's golf senior Marcus Lim earned his first victory of the 2023-24 season on Sunday, topping a 63-person field at the Autumn Invitational, hosted by Columbia at the Lake Placid Club Links Course.
As a team, the Pioneers took fourth place with a combined score of 873 (+21), needing just one stroke to catch third-place Bryant (+20). Today's result clinched the Pios' first top-five finish of the season. The host from Columbia won this weekend's event with a combined score of 849 (-3).
Lim secured his second consecutive win at this event with an even-par 71 on Sunday. The Selangor, Malaysia, native earned his first victory of the season, and the eighth of his career, on the back of his outstanding eight-under 63 in round one. He finished the tournament with a combined score of 205 (-8) to finish two strokes clear of the field.
Mike Rothberg placed next for the Pios in a tie for 11th. The sophomore climbed one spot on the leaderboard following a Sunday 71 (+1). He posted a combined score of four-over 218 (71-74-72), ending the event with seven birdies on his way to a season-best finish.
Jason Pelley was SHU's next best finisher in a tie for 35th, as he posted a 54-hole score of 224 (+11). Alex Turlik capped his sophomore debut in a tie for 42nd place, finishing the event with a three-over 74 on Sunday, his best round of the tournament, to finish with a combined score of 227 (+14). The Pios' final golfer this weekend was Pablo Lacayo, who placed 58th with a final score of 236 (+23).
The Pioneers will next compete at home at the SHU Fall Classic, hosted at Sacred Heart's Great River Golf Club in Milford, Conn. The event is scheduled to begin on Sunday, Oct. 15.
