Lim and Rothberg are tied in first on the individual leaderboard
MILFORD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team leads the SHU Fall Classic after round one following its strong outing on Sunday afternoon at the Great River Golf Club in Milford, Conn. The Pioneers' Marcus Lim and Mike Rothberg are tied in first place after each carded a one-under 71.
As a team, Sacred Heart A posted a combined score of three-over 291 to sit in first out of the 10 competing programs. SHU leads second-place Rhode Island (+11) by eight strokes. Sacred Heart B tied for eighth after 18 holes with a score of +31 (319).
Lim and Rothberg lead the way in the 54-person field with identical scores of one-under 71. Lim led Rothberg with a 6-2 birdie advantage, but Rothberg finished the round with just one bogey, while Lim had five.
Jason Pelley was right behind his teammates in third place after he carded an even-par 72 today. The junior from London, England, birdied four holes on the back nine this afternoon.
Alex Turlik and Pablo Lacayo finished one stroke apart in T11th and T16th. Turlik posted a four-over 76, while Lacayo shot a five-over 77.
Eoin Freeman, Kevin Morris and Conor Handley finished within four strokes of each other in T23rd, T35th and T41st. Freeman shot 79 (+7), Morris carded an 81 (+9) and Handley posted a score of 83 (+11).
Rounding out SHU's competitors were Sho Suzuki and Victor Ginart-Belmonte in T45th and T51st, respectively.
The second round of the SHU Fall Classic will begin tomorrow at 10 a.m. with a shotgun start.
