Rouquette Leads Pios after Day One of The Southern

SHU is tied for 10th following the first two rounds
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Senior Margot Rouquette continued her strong fall season for the Sacred Heart University women's golf team as she leads the Pioneers after the first two rounds of The Southern, hosted by Georgia Southern at the Savannah Golf Club.
SHU sits in a tie for 10th after the first 36 holes of play, owning a team score of 624 (+48). The Pios are knotted with Florida Atlantic in the 10 spot. Sacred Heart is just five strokes back of Jacksonville State (+43) in ninth. The hosting Eagles of Georgia Southern pace the talented 11-team field with a score of 591 (+15).
Rouquette leads the Pioneers in T16th with a combined score of 150 (+6), opening the day with a two-over 74 and closing it with a four-over 76. She tallied three birdies in round one and two in round two to give her a team-best five on the day. The Montiron, France, native has led the team in two events this fall season, coming close again last week with a solo second-place showing in the SHU Fall Classic.
Kailee Welch is next on the leaderboard for Sacred Heart in a tie for 28th. The graduate student from Huntington Beach, Calif., carded a nine-over 153 today (77-76). She birdied the par-three fourth twice, adding another birdie-two on the 14th for her three under-par holes.
Chantal El Chaib finished two strokes behind Welch with an 11-over 155 to sit tied for 38th. After starting the day with a 79 (+7), the senior from Abu Dhabi, UAE, cut three strokes in round two with a 76 (+4). She finished second on the team with four birdies today.
Rounding out the Pios' five competitors at The Southern are Jessie Burch and Maya Robilio in 60th and 61st, respectively. Burch carded a 166 (+22), while Robilio finished with a 168 (+24).
Round three of The Southern is slated to start tomorrow morning at 8:30 a.m.
