Pios host Army on Tuesday night
BOSTON (October 30, 2023) – Two members of the Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team have earned weekly awards from Atlantic Hockey, for the week ending on Oct. 29. Braeden Tuck (Calgary, Alberta) is the Player of the Week, while Hunter Sansbury (Lomita, Calif.) was picked as the Defensive Player of the Week, as announced on Monday afternoon by the league office.
Tuck had two points in each game for a four-point weekend (1-3-4) as the Pios split a pair on home ice against Niagara. On Friday, he had the secondary assist on John Jaworski's first-period goal, before putting one home himself by cleaning up a rebound out front on a second-period power play. In Saturday's 4-1 SHU win, he collected the primary assist on Jake Bongo's first collegiate tally in the first, and later won a board battle to help set up the power-play game-winner from TJ Walsh late in the second stanza. Tuck recorded three shots and was +3 across the two games, with one blocked shot.
On the season, Tuck is the team's leading scorer, with 3-5-8 to his name through six games. He has recorded seven shots, blocked four and is +3.
For his part, Sansbury keyed a defensive effort which saw the Pios block 36 shots over the course of the weekend. He blocked four shots in each of the two games against Niagara to match his career high, and has now registered four blocks in each of the last four games. Sansbury also recorded five shots of his own at the other end of the ice and was even for the week in terms of plus/minus.
On the season, Sansbury has one goal and one assist through six games. He is the team's leader with 20 blocked shots, which also leads Atlantic Hockey. Sansbury has recorded 16 shots of his own at the offensive end.
SHU (2-4-0, 2-2-0 AHA) is back in action on Tuesday night, as the Pios host Army on Halloween. Puck drop is set for 7 p.m. at Martire Family Arena. Fans are encouraged to wear costumes to the game and participate in the night's costume contest. Tickets are available through Ticketmaster.
