Pioneers Finish Second at ASU Spring Classic

PRATTVILLE, Ala. – Despite a shortened event, the Sacred Heart University women's golf team had a good start to the spring season. The Pioneers came in second at the Alabama State Spring Classic, played on the Capital Hill Course of the Robert Trent Jones Golf Trail.

Darkness halted play on Sunday and to accommodate travel schedules the final round was reduced to nine holes. The Pioneers finished five strokes back of Samford with a total of 776 (309-313-154).

Leading the way thanks to a two-under 34 during Monday's nine holes was sophomore Maya Robilio with a 189 (79-76-34). SHU had three players in the top five as Chantal El Chaib finished fourth at 192 (76-75-41) and Kailee Welch was a stroke back.

All five Sacred Heart players cracked the top 20. Senior Chelsea Thakkar placed 11^th at 204 (82-80-42) while Jensie Nicholas tallied a 209 (80-85-44) to tie for 19^th.

Up next for the Pioneers is SHU Spring Break Invitational, March 13-14, in Daytona Beach, Fla.
