Jake Ward had three goals to lead Sacred Heart
FAIRFIELD, Conn.— The Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team fell 15-12 on the road at Stony Brook on Sunday afternoon. Sophomore Jake Ward led the Pioneers with three goals and one assist.

Stony Brook got the scoring going in the opening quarter, but Sacred Heart scored back-to-back goals to take a 2-1 lead at 10:45. The Seawolves answered and tied it up at 2-2, but Jake Ward put the Pioneers back in the lead, 3-2, with a goal at 7:14. Stony Brook went on to score three more times in the quarter to take a 5-3 advantage after the first.
In the second quarter, the Pioneers pulled themselves within one, 5-4, from a tally from Jake Garb, but that would be the only goal of the quarter for Sacred Heart. Stony Brook went on to take a 9-4 lead at halftime.
Sacred Heart opened the third quarter with back-to-back goals from Carson Spooner and Sal Miccio to cut the deficit to three, 9-6. Stony Brook went us by as many as five goals in the third, but the Pioneers kept at it, ending the third quarter with a 12-8 deficit.
Sacred Heart outscored Stony Brook 4-3 in the final quarter, but the Seawolves had solidified their lead early, taking the 15-12 final.
Junior goalkeeper Alex Pazienza made a career-high 18 saves between the pipes for the Pioneers.

Sacred Heart wraps up its four-game road trip and will be on Campus Field on Saturday, March 4th, in the Pioneers home opener against Drexel at noon.
