Jaspers Too Much For Pioneers

Sacred Heart duo scored a pair of goals each
RIVERDALE, N.Y.- The Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team used a strong fourth quarter, but it was not enough to complete a comeback as the Pioneers fell 9-7 on the road at Manhattan on Saturday afternoon in Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) action. Carson Spooner and Skyler Wilde each scored two goals apiece to lead Sacred Heart.

Manhattan scored the opening two goals of the game to take an early lead. Johnny Morgan found the back of the net at 2:20 in the first to get the Pioneers on the board and cut the score in half, 2-1.
Neither team scored a goal in the second quarter until there were less than five minutes left in the game. The Jaspers scored first in the second quarter at 4:29 to take a 3-1 lead. Sal Miccio brought the Pioneers within one, 3-2, with a helper from Michael Moreschi at 3:16. Manhattan answered with back-to-back goals to extend its lead to 5-2. Wilde put one away for the Pioneers to close out the second quarter with a 5-3 deficit.
The Jaspers outscored Sacred Heart 2-1 to take a 7-4 lead heading into the final quarter.
Moreschi opened the scoring in the fourth quarter for Sacred Heart. The Pioneers outscored the Jaspers 3-2 in the final quarter, but it wasn't enough as Manhattan held on for the 9-7 final.
The Pioneers' junior goalkeeper Alex Pazienza made nine saves in the loss.

Sacred Heart will be back in action at home next Saturday, March 25th at 12:00 pm, as they host Virginia Military Institute in MAAC action on Campus Field in the annual PAWS of War game.
