Pios Sweep Top Two Individual Prizes at Hornet Classic

Rouquette won, and El Chaib finished second to highlight the tournament for SHU
REHOBOTH, Del. – Margot Rouquette won, and Chantal El Chaib took second to lead the Sacred Heart University women's golf team at the Hornet Classic, hosted by Delaware State at the Kings Creek Country Club on Monday and Tuesday.
As a team, the Pioneers posted a 54-hole score of 886 (+34) to place second out of 14 teams. Sacred Heart had the lowest team score on Sunday, finishing with a six-over 290. Northeast Conference foe Howard won the event with a combined score of 873 (+21).
After tying for the lead after the first two rounds, Margot Rouquette held on to win the event with an even-par score of 213. The Montiron, France, native shot 72, 70 and 71 over the three rounds, sinking 10 birdies at the event.
El Chaib climbed three spots on the final leaderboard to place solo second with a two-over 215. The senior from Abu Dhabi, UAE, was at her best in round one, carding a one-under 70. She tallied three birdies on Tuesday, giving her 10 at the event.
The trio of Kailee Welch, Maya Robilio and Jesse Burch finished next for the Pios bunched between ties for 21st and 23rd. Welch and Robilio placed in a tie for 21st with a score of 232 (+19). Burch was next in a tie for 23rd with a score of 233 (+20).
SHU's final participant at the event was Jensie Nicholas, who finished 44th with a score of 241 (+28).
The Pioneers' fall slate continues on Monday and Tuesday, Sept. 25-26, at the Red Bandanna Women's Invitational, hosted by Boston College.
