SHU’s El Chaib, Welch and Rouquette all ranked in top 15
CANTON, Mass. – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team is second out of 17 teams after the first two rounds of the Red Bandanna Women's Invitational, hosted by Boston College on Monday and Tuesday at the Blue Hill Country Club in Canton, Mass.
The Pioneers posted a team score of 600 (+24) after 36 holes on Monday, trailing first-place BC by five strokes. SHU posted the best score in round two, carding a seven-over 295 to climb the team leaderboard.
Leading the way for the Pioneers is senior Chantal El Chaib, who is tied for third after carding a four-over 148 (75-73). The native of Abu Dhabi, UAE, was at her best in round two, climbing six places on the leaderboard with a one-over 73. She posted three of her four birdies in the second round.
Kailee Welch placed next for the Pioneers in a tie for 11th. The graduate student from Huntington Beach, Calif., shot a 151 (+7) with similar round scores of 75 and 76. Welch finished the day with five birdies, three in round one and two in round two.
Margot Rouquette continued her stellar start to the season by finishing today in a tie for 15th. After carding a 78 (+6) in the opening round, the Montiron, France, native shaved six strokes with a two-over 74 to finish the opening 36 holes with a 152 (+8).
Maya Robilio, Jessie Burch and Jensie Nicholas completed SHU's lineup today. Robilio placed in a tie for 18th with a combined score of 153 (+9) after posting an outstanding even-par 70 in round two. Burch and Nicholas placed T42nd and 77th, respectively. Burch carded a 158 (+14), while Nicholas shot a 167 (+23).
