Men’s Golf Starts Metropolitan Intercollegiate in Fifth

All seven SHU golfers sit in the top 35 of the tournament
MONTCLAIR, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team started its last tournament of the fall slate in fifth place at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate, hosted by Wagner at the Montclair Golf Club in Montclair, N.J.
The Pioneers own a team score of 305 (+25) following today's first-round action. SHU is a part of a congested middle pack, as it trails second-place Fairfield by just six strokes. Rhode Island leads the field by 13 strokes at 286 (+6).
All seven of SHU's golfers at the event sit within five strokes of each other as Pablo Lacayo leads the team in a tie for 10th place. The impressive junior carded an opening round score of 74 (+4), finishing the day with a pair of birdies.
Yu Chan Ji Lim and Robby Zyskowski III placed next for the Pioneers in a tie for 18th. Both golfers tallied scores of 76 (+6). Lim recorded two birdies on the day, while Zyskowski had one.
The quartet of Eoin Freeman, Sho Suzuki, Ethan Phillips and Mike Rothberg all finished within two strokes of each other. Freeman (+7) led the field in a tie for 23rd, while Suzuki (+8) and Phillips (+8) tied for 27th. Rothberg concluded SHU's golfers today in a tie for 35th with a score of 79 (+9).
The second and final round of the Metropolitan Intercollegiate will take place tomorrow.
