
Men's Lacrosse Announces 2025 Captains

The Pioneers will have four captains leading the team this season
FAIRFIELD, Conn.—Fresh off its historic season, Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse head coach Jon Basti has announced the team's captains for 2025. Graduate student Cayden Brodnax and seniors Luke Catolico, Jack Ramsay, and Jake Ward have been selected to lead the team this year.
Brodnax enters his fifth year with Sacred Heart while Catolico, Ramsay, and Ward enter their fourth. Each is a returning member from the 2024 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship team. Brodnax and Ward have been a part of the team's offensive unit, while Catolico and Ramsay are from the defensive end.
"We are excited about the leadership qualities of all of these men," said Head Coach Jon Basti. "They all fit a certain important style to reach different types of people. As a group, they are very dedicated to the program and our process and that is why they were chosen."
Brodnax has made 24 appearances during his time with SHU and scored a pair of goals. He has been on the team all four years of his career and will play one more season as a grad student. He brings valuable veteran leadership to the group.
During his career with SHU, Catolico has made 26 appearances with 18 starts. He has caused eight turnovers and has picked up 39 ground balls. The senior helped maintain an overall goals-against average of 9.61 and a 56% save percentage. The Pioneers were ranked as high as fifth in the country in clearing percentage and sixth in scoring defense.
Ramsay, who was named to the All-MAAC second team last season, has appeared in all 46 games of his career while starting in 44. He led the team in caused turnovers during his sophomore and junior seasons. He also has scored a goal and added a pair of assists during his career. He had picked up 70 ground balls and has caused 43 turnovers throughout his time with the Pioneers.
An All-MAAC second-team selection last season, Ward has appeared in 46 games with 44 starts, tallying 119 points during his career so far. He led the Pioneers in scoring during his sophomore year with 28 and was third on the team with 32 goals last season. During his first year, Ward was named the Northeast Conference (NEC) Rookie of the Year.
Sacred Heart made its first NCAA Tournament appearance after winning the program's first regular and postseason titles. The Pioneers went undefeated in MAAC play, riding a program-best, 11-game win streak, and had a program-record 13 wins. Head Coach Jon Basti was named the MAAC Coach of the Year as the Pios had a program-best eight athletes bring in postseason MAAC awards.
