Men's Golf Takes Seventh at Savannah Intercollegiate to Open Spring

Lim placed in a tie for third to pace the Pioneers
SAVANNAH, Ga. – Marcus Lim led the way for the Sacred Heart University men's golf team in its first tournament of the spring, the Savannah Intercollegiate, as he finished in a tie for third place. The Pioneers took seventh as a team.
SHU finished the 54-hole event with a score of 887 (+23). The Pios carded a score of 299 in the first and third rounds while shooting a 289 in round two. Sacred Heart edged Northeast Conference (NEC) foe FDU (+35) by 12 strokes in 10th place. North Alabama (-16) won the team title, claiming two medalist honors and finishing 14 strokes ahead of second-place Harvard (-2).
Lim tallied his third consecutive under-par round on Sunday with a two-under 70, which was tied for the round of the day. He ended the tournament with a five-under 211 (70-71-70), finishing just two strokes shy of sharing medalist honors. The Selangor, Malaysia, native carded three birdies and one bogey Sunday, tallying 13 birdies at the event.
Pablo Lacayo finished next for the Pios in a tie for 17th. The sophomore from Managua, Nicaragua, carded a two-over 218 (76-69-73) over the 54 holes, with a one-over 73 Sunday. Lacayo has tallied a top-20 finish in his last three events.
Eoin Freeman and Mike Rothberg were SHU's next-highest placers in T34th and T41th, respectively. The duo finished two strokes apart, with Freeman posting a 223 (74-74-75) and Rothberg a 225 (77-71-77).
Conor Handley and Jason Pelley rounded out the Pioneers' six competitors at the tournament. Handley was tied for 75th with a 54-hole score of 237 (80-78-79), while Pelley tied for 77th with a 239 (76-81-82).
The Pioneers will hit the course again on Friday, March 8, for the opening day of the SHU Spring Break Invitational, hosted at the Eagle Harbor Golf Club in Fleming Island, Fla.
