Women’s Golf Tied for Second on First Day of Texas State Invite

Welch tied for second after 36 holes; Robilio hit hole-in-one
NEW BRAUNFELS, Texas – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team opened the spring portion of its schedule by being tied for second at the 14-team Texas State Invitational, which kicked off Monday at the Landa Park Golf Club in New Braunfels, Texas.
The Pioneers are tied with Abilene Christian in second place with a 36-hole score of 601 (+33). Hosting Texas State leads with a two-over 570. SHU is five strikes clear of fourth-place Oakland (606).
Kailee Welch paces the Pioneers in a tie for second with a one-over 143 after the first two rounds. The graduate student tied for the best score in round one with a two-under 69, carding four birdies, three coming on the back nine. Welch then carded a 74 in round two, carding a birdie on hole 16.
SHU's next-highest golfer was Chantal El Chaib, who was in a tie for ninth. The senior from Abu Dhabi, UAE, tallied a score of 147 (+5) with a 74 in round one and a 73 in round two. She recorded three birdies on the day, one in the first 18 holes and two in the second.
Maya Robilio, who carded her first collegiate hole-in-one on the par-3 seventh hole, also placed in the top 20 in a tie for 18th. She finished the day with a score of 152 (+10), carding two birdies in addition to her hole-in-one.
Jessie Burch (159) and Jensie Nicholas (171) rounded out SHU's five competitors in T50th and 76th, respectively.
The third and final round of the Texas State Invitational will happen tomorrow.
