Pios earn seven medals during meet
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — Angela Kaiser's win in the women's 3000 meters catapulted the Sacred Heart University women's track and field team as it finished in second-place at the Rider University 5-Way on Friday. The Pioneers solidified their silver medal team showing with 110 points, finishing behind hosts Rider while pulling away from Northeast Conference (NEC) foes, FDU, who finished in fifth.
Kaiser, who finished nine seconds ahead of her fellow competitors with a personal-best time of 10:16.47, headlined the 3000 meters for SHU, claiming her first win in the event since the 2022 Yale Season Opener in December 2022. Five fellow Pios also scored in the event as Grace DelGiorno earned her first medal in the event with a third-place finish. Kelly Parker, Grace Sousa and Kathleen Cronin also scored for the Pioneers who earned 24 points in the event alone.
Elsewhere on the track, Grace Miller set a personal-best in the season-debut of the 3000 meter steeplechase, claiming second with a time of 12:10.57. SHU claimed its fourth and final medal on the track with a third-place finish in the 4x100m relay as the quartet of Magdalena Brogioli, Annalise Nassy, Jillian Audette and Jada Alston took bronze with a time 48.42 seconds.
In total, the Pios scored in 13 events during the day including Alston's fifth-place finish in the 200m dash and Olivia Suter's fifth-place time in the 400m hurdles as SHU claimed 63 of its 110 points on the track.
In the field portion of the meet, the Pioneers received strong showings all around with Erin Lavelle, Taylor Moore, and Jenna Engels grabbing silver medals to propel SHU to its second-place team finish. Moore was one of two point-scorers in the women's discus, taking second place with a mark of 36.19m while fellow first year Lauren Morales claimed fourth.
In jumps, Lavelle's 5.57m mark in the long jump claimed second for the Pios while first year's Kayla Guerino and Inga Jung earned personal bests with seventh and eighth place finishes, respectively. In the pole vault, Engels continued where she left off in the indoor season, claiming the silver medal with a 3.35m clearance while Guerino and sophomore Erin Dunn scored with fifth and sixth place finishes.
