
Women's T&F Grabs Six Medals at Black & Gold Invite

Pios earn 20 top-10 placements across two-day meet
SMITHTOWN, R.I. — The Sacred Heart University women's track and field team wrapped up a successful weekend at the Black & Gold Invitational hosted by Bryant University, claiming fifth place out of 15 teams in competition while earning six medals as the meet concluded on Saturday evening.
The Pios, who earned a total of 69.75 points on the weekend, earned three of their six medal placements on the track. Angela Kaiser continued her dominance in the distance and mid-distance, placing third in the women's 1500m with a time of 4:38.43. Though the Pios did not medal in sprints, SHU received solid scoring performances in the 100m dash from sophomore Jada Alston who finished in seventh, while Grace DelGiorno earned a sixth-place showing in the women's 5000m as part of over 20 top-10 finishes the Pios accrued during the two-day meet.
Magdalena Brogioli earned SHU's second medal on the track with a streaking third-place finish in the 100m hurdles as part of a three-medal day for the Pioneer sophomore. Fellow Pioneer Madeline Archangelo also finished in the top-10 in the event, taking eighth place. In the 400m hurdles, Ava Srinivasan claimed sixth place as to give SHU more points toward its team total. SHU claimed its third medal on the track thanks to a third-place outing in the women's 4x100m relay as Brogioli, Alston, Annalise Nassy, and Jillian Audette claimed a podium finish with a time of 48.53 seconds.
SHU had its best showing of the meet in the women's high jump, claiming 19.5 points toward the team total that propelled the Pios to a fifth-place overall finish. Brogioli claimed her third medal of the weekend with a second-place finish clearing a mark of 1.66m while Lauryn Piccirelli claimed her second medal of the season with a personal best clearance of 1.61m. Ava Coscia, Diamani Canuto and Kayleigh Troy also had strong showings in the event to round out the scoring for SHU.
Elsewhere in the field, Jenna Engels claimed her second-consecutive medal with a third-place showing in the pole vault, clearing a mark of 3.53m. Erin Lavelle had a strong outing in jumps to continue scoring for the Pioneers, earning fifth place in the long jump and sixth place in the triple jump. In throws, the Pios received top-10 outings from Lauren Morales and Ariyana Jackson in the shot put before Archangelo claimed her personal-best in the javelin with a top-10 mark of 33.39m.
