Women's Golf Owns Big Lead at JEL Intercollegiate

El Chaib leads the field, while Rouquette is in second
GRASONVILLE, Md. – The Sacred Heart University women's golf team leads by 11 strokes after the first two rounds of the JEL Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay Friday, hosted by La Salle at the Prospect Bay Golf Club in Grasonville, Md.
The Pioneers finished the first 36 holes Saturday with a combined score of 597 (+21), comfortably leading second-place Boston College (608, +32). SHU posted the lone sub-300 scores of the day, a round-one 299 and a round-two 298. Sacred Heart leads the field of 12 teams, NEC foes LIU (+79) and Wagner (+128).
Leading the tournament is the Pios' Chantal El Chaib at even-par 144. The senior from Abu Dhabi, UAE, opened the day with a two-over 74 before posting the tournament's best round so far, a two-under 70 in round two. She finished her second 18 holes with four birdies, including three in a row on holes three, four and five.
Margot Rouquette has also been excellent so far, as she sits in second with a three-over 147. She opened the day with five birdies in her opening round 73 before carding four birdies in her second-round 74.
Kailee Welch and Jessie Burch also sit in the top 10 after the first two rounds, tying for fifth and seventh, respectively. Welch tallied a birdie in both rounds today on her way to a nine-over 153 (77-76). Burch recorded rounds of 75 and 79, opening the day with three birdies in the first 18 holes, on her way to a 10-over 154.
Jensie Nicholas and Maya Robilio rounded out SHU's golfers today in T25th and T33rd. Nicholas finished with a score of 164 (+20), while Robilio carded a 167 (+23).
JEL Intercollegiate at Prospect Bay wraps up tomorrow, with round three slated to start at 8:45 a.m.
