James Moran brings in his second Rookie of the Week honor
FAIRFIELD, Conn.— First-year James Moran was named the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Rookie of the Week this week as the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team won a pair of conference games to remain undefeated in league play.
Moran collects his second Rookie of the Week honor this season. The Nanuet, N.Y. native tallied six goals this week, recording a hat trick in each of the Pioneers two games.
In SHU's victory over Marist, Moran scored his first of the day during a man-up opportunity in the second period. He scored again less than two minutes later, giving the Pios a 7-0 lead over the defending MAAC Champions on Wednesday evening. He completed his hat trick with the last goal of the game to solidify the 12-7 home victory.
On the road at LIU, Moran scored his first of the day at 8:53 in the third quarter, extending SHU's lead to 10-4. He finished his second hat trick of the week, scoring back-to-back goals in the fourth quarter to put the Pioneers ahead 13-5. With the 17-6 victory, Sacred Heart handed LIU its first MAAC loss of the season as the Pioneers remain undefeated in conference play at 5-0.
SHU returns home this Saturday, April 6, to take on Wagner at noon on Senior Day.
