
Men's T&F Grabs Fourth at Rider Invitational

Pios earn 24 top-10 placements
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — The Sacred Heart University men's track and field team had a strong outing in its penultimate meet of the regular season, earning 24 top-10 finishes as the Pios placed fourth out of 19 competing teams at the Rider University Invitational on Saturday.
The Pios had a strong start to the day on the track, earning 13 top-10 placements on the day headlined by Lance Hayes' bronze medal in the 800m run. In sprints, Colin Brown grabbed fifth-place in the 200m dash, finishing in with a personal-best time of 22.24 seconds, which ranks first among the Pios this season. Connor Meikle grabbed SHU's other lone top-10 finish in sprints grabbing 10th in the 400m.
The Pios grabbed a plethora of top-10 finishes in distance and hurdles as Matthew Vene and Michael Mason earned fourth and sixth, respectively, in the 5000m before Damon Wilson, Benjamin Healy, and Jeremy Knobel all earned top-10 placements in the 110m hurdles. In the 3000m Steeplechase, Daniel Rodriguez nabbed a fourth-place finish ahead of James Moore and Declan Toland, who both finished within the top eight runners.
SHU remained in the race for the top team finish after grabbing the event win in the 4x400m relay as Brown, Meikle, Brendan Lyles and Lance Hayes took first place in a time of 3:21.78 seconds, which is just three-tenths of a second off the team lead.
In the field, The Pios showed well as Douglas Suter headlined the men's javelin with a fourth-place finish with a mark of 48.74m. Mason Marino, Albert DePierro IV and Devin DiMartino also finished in the top-10 in the event for SHU. Suter also claimed SHU's top spot in the pole vault, clearing 3.95m which was good for sixth-place on the afternoon. Concluding the jumps portion was Dylan Hunt's sixth-place finish in the triple jump, setting a mark of 13.46m on his fifth attempt to score for the Red & White while Blake Stewart grabbed a top-10 finish with a mark of 12.78m to earn ninth.
In throws, Cole Decusati led the way for the Pios in discus, setting a mark of 41.44m on his final throw to claim fifth while Liam Tharin grabbed ninth with a mark of 39.07m. In shot put, Aidan Glennon had a strong outing claiming sixth place with a mark of 13.61m while Connor Wilkinson-Feickert grabbed ninth with a mark of 13.33m. Joshua Wood concluded the plethora of top-10 finishes on the day with a ninth-place finish in the hammer throw, setting a mark of 46.21m on his first throw as the Pios concluded their short stint in New Jersey with a fourth-place team finish.
