
Women's T&F Earns Second at Rider Invitational

Pios grab eight medal-finishes in penultimate meet
LAWRENCEVILLE, N.J. — Angela Kaiser's win in the 5000m and Magdalena Brogioli's top honor in the high jump embodied a successful showing for the Sacred Heart University women's track and field team as it finished up competition at the Rider University Invitational with a second-place team finish on Saturday evening.
The Pios, who finished just behind future Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) foes , Quinnipiac, grabbed second place ahead of the hosts with a total team score of 132 points. The Pios took the top spot out of all three Northeast Conference (NEC) squads competing, finishing well ahead of Wagner and FDU who were also in attendance.
The Red & White started the meet strong with a plethora of top-10 finishes in sprints as Tessa Carminucci, Brooke DeWeese and Samantha Burns grabbed seventh through ninth in the 100m to earn three points for the Pios while Jillian Audette and Jada Alston grabbed sixth and eighth, respectively, in the 200m to earn points. Tori Chorzepa grabbed fifth-place in the 400m dash to round out the scoring in sprints for the Pios.
Elsewhere on the track, Angela Kaiser grabbed her third event-win and third win in the last two meets with a first place finish in the 5000m. Her time of 17:16.84 also set a new personal-best. Grace Sousa had a strong outing in the event with a fourth place finish while Isabella Rogler grabbed ninth.
SHU remained poised to make a run toward a first-place team finish with a plethora of scoring in the hurdles and relays starting with Brogioli's second place finish in the 100m hurdles. First year's Ariyana Jackson and Amanda Galasso gave the Red & White support having scored with third and seventh place finishes, respectively. In the 400m hurdles, Kaleigh Jess and Nicole Parise earned valuable points with seventh and eighth place finishes. In the steeplechase, Keegan Pepin led the way for the Pioneers with a fifth-place finish while Kelly Parker and Grace Miller followed suit in sixth and seventh place.
In the relays, SHU's A squad of Audette, Brogioli, Annalise Nassy and Alston grabbed second palce with a finish of 48.98 seconds in the 4x100m while in the 4x400m, SHU had three relays score with the quartet of Chorzepa, Diamani Canuto, Ava Srinivasan and Marisa Maio claiming second place.
SHU continued its dominance in the field taking four medals in jumps as Brogioli grabbed first-place in the high jump with a personal-best clearing of 1.70m for her second medal-finish in the event during the outdoor season. Grabbing third in the event was Lauryn Piccirelli who cleared 1.60m. Jenna Engels had another strong outing by earning SHU's third medal in jumps, grabbing second place in the pole vault with a clearing of 3.60m. The Pios earned their final medal finish as Erin Lavelle grabbed her third-consecutive medal in the triple jump, finishing in second place with a mark of 11.44m on her final jump to conclude the podium finishes for SHU in jumps.
In throws, the Pios narrowly missed podiums but had strong showings as Lauren Morales claimed fourth in the discus with a mark of 36.88m on her final throw. Elsewhere in the field, Marisa Imme claimed sixth in the javelin while Brogioli claimed eighth to earn the final few points for SHU as the Pios secured second place overall.
