
Babuschak, Donohue Collect Weekly Awards

Both honored for second time this season
BRIDGEWATER, N.J. (May 20, 2024) – Senior right-hander Jake Babuschak (Jobstown, N.J.) and first-year shortstop Gavin Donohue (Melrose, Mass.) of the Sacred Heart University baseball team has been named Northeast Conference Pitcher and Rookie of the Week, respectively for the week ending on May 19, as announced on Monday by the conference office.
It is the second time each player has earned their respective award this season. Babuschak was previously named Pitcher of the Week on March 12, while Donohue earned Rookie of the Week laurels on April 2.
Babuschak was lights out in his final regular-season start on Thursday at Maryland Eastern Shore. He needed just 96 pitches (71 strikes) to author a two-hit shutout of the Hawks, with a pair of walks and a hit batsman along the way. Babuschak faced just 31 batters and struck out 10 of them to match his career high. He did not allow a runner to reach third base all afternoon.
Meanwhile, Donohue put together a .421/.542/.737 slash line in a 4-0 week for the Pios, good for a 1.279 OPS across 19 at-bats (8-for-19). He hit two home runs, scored eight runs and drove in nine. Donohue took four walks and was hit by one pitch, against two strikeouts. He was at his best on Tuesday against Quinnipiac, when he was 3-for-4 with a home run, scored three runs and drove in six, including a two-run, walk-off single in the ninth.
SHU (33-21, 25-8 NEC) captured the program's first NEC regular-season title over the weekend. The Pios will open pursuit of their fifth conference championship on Thursday at 11 a.m., against an opponent to be determined. The NEC Championship will be held at Heritage Financial Field in Wappingers Falls, N.Y.
