How It Happened
Sacred Heart struck first as Gavin Donohue led off the bottom of the first with a solo home run. The Pioneers created additional traffic early with walks and hit-by-pitches but were unable to add on. Bryan Matuschat settled in on the mound, recording an early strikeout and later retiring the side in order in the fifth.

Mount St. Mary's responded with two runs in the third and two more in the fourth to take control. Sacred Heart answered in the bottom of the third when JW Fitzgerald singled, stole second, and scored on a double from Ronan Donohue, but the Pioneers were held scoreless over the next few innings despite multiple baserunners.

In the seventh, Fitzgerald again sparked momentum with a walk and stolen base before coming around to score. Ronan Donohue later reached on a fielder's choice, and Rice delivered an RBI double to cut into the deficit.

Defensively, Sacred Heart came up with a key play in the ninth as Peter Link threw out a runner at home to end the inning. The Pioneers threatened late with runners in scoring position, but could not complete the comeback, falling 6–4.
