Men’s Golf Takes Third at Red Bandanna Invitational

Three Pioneers placed in the top four at the event
VERONA, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team put three Pioneers in the top four as SHU finished third at the Red Bandanna Invitational, hosted by Boston College at the Turning Stone Resort in Verona, N.Y.
The Pioneers climbed one spot on the final leaderboard Monday with a combined score of 888 (292-299-297), finishing 24 strokes over par. Boston College took first at its home event at 867 (+3). Sacred Heart was just three strokes shy of tying second-place North Dakota State at 885 (+21).
In his first event with the Pioneers, Ethan Phillips led the team with a combined score of one-over 217 (68-76-73). The graduate transfer from Post capped his strong tournament with a one-over 73 today. He finished the event with eight birdies, six of which came in his four-under round one.
Pablo Lacayo and Mike Rothberg finished in a tie for fourth place with identical scores of 218 (+2). Lacayo joined Phillips by going under par in round one with a two-under 70 before posting rounds of 75 and 73 to close out the event. Rothberg caught fire after round one, going 75, 72, and 71. He was one of just three golfers to go under par in round three.
Eoin Freeman and Sho Suzuki both finished in the top 30 this weekend, in T16th and T29th, respectively. Freeman posted a combined score of 10-over 226 (72-74-80). Suzuki had his best round of the event on Sunday with a 77 (+5), settling his score at 236 (79-80-77).
Yu Chan Ji Lim, Robby Zyskowski III and Alex Turlik brought an end to SHU's competitors. Ji Lim was tied for 32nd, Zyskowski III T49th and Turlik 56th.
The Pioneers hit the course again on Friday, Sept. 20, for the three-round Ryan Lee Intercollegiate at the Shuttle Meadow CC in Kensington, Conn.
