How it Happened:
The opening set seesawed back and forth for the first 11 points before the Saints began to pull away with a seven point rally that provided an 19-11 cushion. The Pioneers responded with three-straight points on kills from Cristina Montaez, Ryleigh Short and Abbie Hagedorn, however the Saints would cap off that rally and maintain the lead to take 25-19 decision and the early 1-0 lead.
Sacred Heart responded by closing out the second set with the best single set hitting percentage of the evening for either team with 18 kills in 40 attempts with six e3rrors for a .300 average, taking the second set by a commanding 25-16 score to knot the match at one set apiece.
The third set stayed close throughout with neither team able to open up a lead of more than five, that coming in favor of the Pioneers at 12-7 and again at 15-10, the later thanks for a service ace from Lauren Hubert. Siena slowly chipped away at that lead, eventually tying the score at 21. After ties at 22, 23 and 24, the Saints would come out on top 26-24 with the final point coming on an ace.
The fourth set would once again seesaw back and forth, this time ending with 12 ties and five lead changes and forced beyond the 25 point plateau. This time around neither team would lead by more than three points with the Saints closing out the match victory with back-to-back kills from Mary Claire Deacy.
