SHU will play its final game before its holiday break

FAIRFIELD, Conn. — Following a thrilling home win over Dartmouth on Friday, the Sacred Heart University men's basketball team will play its final non-conference game of the season on Monday, Dec. 22, at 2 pm at Towson.

OPENING TIP

Sacred Heart and Towson meet for the third time in series history. They have one meeting when both teams were Division II, and then one during the teams' DI eras.
The series is tied at 1-1. SHU defeated Towson 85-82 on March 12, 1977, in the NCAA DII Elite Eight. The Pioneers fell to the Tigers in DI competition on Dec. 5, 2015, 83-61 at Towson.
Both teams are coming off home wins on Friday. SHU defeated Dartmouth 85-63, and Towson beat Notre Dame (Md.) 107-60.
Dashon Gittens (26) and Mekhi Conner (21) each posted career-highs in points as four Pios scored in double figures.
Gittens (16.3 ppg) and Anquan Hill (14.9 ppg) both rank in the MAAC's top 10 in scoring, with Gittens fourth and Hill ninth.
Sacred Heart ranks third in the MAAC in scoring offense (78.3 ppg) and leads the conference in three-pointers made per game (11.4).
Three Pioneers are averaging double figures this season: Gittens (16.3 ppg), Hill (14.9 ppg), and Nyle Ralph-Beyer (14.1 ppg).

SCOUTING TOWSON

After losing two straight games, Towson is coming off a 107-60 home win over Notre Dame (Md.) on Friday evening.
Three players are averaging double figures: Tyler Tejada (17.1), Dylan Williamson (15.3), and Jack Doubia Jr. (11.3).
Caleb Embeya is the team leader in rebounds (6.0).
Towson was selected first in the CAA Preseason Coaches' Poll, and Tejada was tabbed the CAA Preseason Player of the Year.

LAST TIME OUT

Sacred Heart defeated Dartmouth 85-63 at home on Friday afternoon.
Gittens (26) and Conner (21) each tallied career-highs, leading four Pios in double figures. Conner had a double-double, adding 10 assists for the first time this season.
Ralph-Beyer (12) scored in double figures for the sixth consecutive game, and Farell wrapped up SHU's double-digit scorers with 10 points.
The Pioneers shot 41.8 percent (33-of-79) from the field, knocked down nine three-pointers, and won the rebounding battle, 48–45.

INSIDE THE RANKINGS

Sacred Heart's offense ranks third in the MAAC at 78.3 points per game.
The Pioneers lead the conference with 137 made three-pointers, averaging 11.4 per game, tied for 11th nationally.
SHU also sits 15th in the country in three-point attempts per game (31.7).
Gittens is fourth in the MAAC in scoring at 16.3 ppg. He owns the fifth-best field-goal percentage in the conference at 57.0%. Gittens also ranks sixth in the league in steals at 2.0 per game and ninth in blocks 0.9 per game.
Hill is ninth in scoring at 14.9 points per game and is eighth in the league in rebounding (6.2 rpg).
Ralph-Beyer (.492) and Farell (.429) are second and seventh, respectively, in the MAAC in three-point percentage, and Ralph-Beyer is ranked 14th nationally.
Conner leads in the conference with 5.9 assists per game, which is 26th nationally, and he holds the second-best assist-to-turnover ratio at 2.2. His 71 assists is tied for 20th in the country.
