Men's Lacrosse Dominates Wagner on Senior Day

SHU honored its 15 seniors in the final non-conference game
FAIRFIELD, Conn.— In its final non-conference game of the season, the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team dominated Wagner with a 20-6 victory on Saturday afternoon at home on Senior Day. The Pioneers had 13 different goal scorers, including five from senior Tucker Spencer. Classmate Jake Ward led the team with seven points from three goals and four assists.
The 20 goals are the most scored since March 14, 2015, when SHU defeated Vermont 21-17.
The Pios had five players record their first career goals in the win, Colby Helfrich, Finn Hoey, Dom Basti, Jack Balzi, and Joel Palasz.

Sacred Heart led early and never looked back, scoring six straight goals through the first quarter. Wagner scored twice in the first, but SHU had the 6-2 edge heading into the second.
Spencer scored back-to-back goals in the second quarter to extend the Pioneers lead by six, but Wagner answered to cut their deficit to 8-3. Ward scored the final goal of the half to send SHU into the break with a 9-3 lead.
Defenseman Jack Ramsay scored the first goal of the third quarter, followed by Spencer and Cayden Brodnax, who put the Pioneers ahead by nine, 12-3. The Seahawks scored once in the third, but Ward, Basti, Tim Kiely, and Palasz each recorded a goal through the quarter's final minutes to send the Pios into the final frame with a 16-4 advantage.
Wagner scored the first two goals of the fourth but Cam Brown, Balzi, Helfrich, and James Moran scored the final goals of the game to secure the 20-6 victory for the Pioneers.
Luke Romanek (7-13), Nicky Casano (6-8), and MP Thomas (5-8) shared the face-off duties for Sacred Heart. Alex Pazienza made eight saves in three quarters in goal, and Matt Gruters had four stops in the final frame.

Sacred Heart will begin Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) play next Saturday, March 8, on the road at Canisius at 11:00 am.
