
Murray Scores Overtime Game-Winner in Pios Comeback Over Siena, Pazienza Becomes All-Time Save Leader

SHU picked up its first conference win of the season
FAIRFIELD, Conn.—John Murray scored the game-winning goal in overtime to give the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) win of the season, 11-10 over Siena on Saturday afternoon. Alex Pazienza made 12 saves en route to becoming the SHU men's lacrosse all-time save leader.

After trailing 6-1 at halftime, Sacred Heart scored five straight goals in the third quarter to tie the game 6-6. Will Moulton highlighted the run with three goals of his own, and Tucker Spencer and Tim Kiely each added one apiece. Siena scored their lone goal of the quarter at 1:05 to head into the final frame with a 7-6 lead.
Ryan Rooney scored first in the fourth quarter to tie the game at 7-7, but the Saints added one to regain the lead. Jake Ward and Rooney added back-to-back goals to give SHU a 9-8 edge. Siena answered with a pair to jump back ahead 10-9 at 4:11 in the fourth. Michael Moreschi found Tucker Spencer at 2:50 to tie the game 10-10 and force the overtime period.
Siena won the opening faceoff in overtime, but the Pioneer's defense held strong, as Michael Amoruso caused a Siena turnover and sent SHU on a good clear attempt transition down on offense. Murray picked up as loose ball and went right to the cage, putting away his second goal of the day to secure the Pioneers overtime victory at home.
With his third save of the day, Pazienza became the Sacred Heart all-time saves leader, as he finished the game with 12 stops for a total of 540 in his career.
