
Men’s Golf Tied for Second Through 36 Holes at MAAC Championship

Pioneers trail leading Iona by two strokes
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team is tied for second after the first two rounds of a tightly-contested 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Championship, hosted at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
SHU owns a team score of 575 (-1) after rounds of 283 (-5) and 292 (+4). The Pioneers are tied with their crosstown rivals of Fairfield, as both teams trail Iona (-3) by two strokes. Mount St. Mary's and Manhattan round out the top five at +1 and +7, respectively. Rider (+8) and Merrimack (+9) are on the Jaspers' doorstep, while Canisius (+22), Niagara (+24), Siena (+29) and Saint Peter's (+39) round out the teams.
Ethan Phillips leads the way for the Pioneers in the hunt for medalist honors at 140 (-4). The graduate transfer is four strokes shy of tying leader Tadgh Burke of Fairfield at 136 (-8). Phillips owns 10 birdies on the tournament, with six coming today. He was SHU's biggest riser today, climbing eight spots on the individual leaderboard.
Pablo Lacayo is the next Pioneer on the leaderboard at 144 (E), which is tied for 11th. The junior from Managua, Nicaragua, matched his round-one total with four birdies today.
Mike Rothberg and Eoin Freeman placed next for SHU at T16th and T22nd, respectively. Rothberg is +2 after 36 holes after rounds of 72 and 74, while Freeman went 72 and 75 for a +3 score.
Rounding out SHU's golfers is Yu Chan Ji Lim 36th place. The first year owns a combined score of 151 (+7) following rounds of 70 and 81.
The third and final round of the MAAC Championship is set to kick off tomorrow morning in sunny Lake Buena Vista.
