LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team begins its first Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) Golf Championships on Thursday, beginning the 2025 tournament at 10 a.m. at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The 54-hole tournament is set to span three days, Thursday-Saturday, Apr. 17-19. The MAAC Championships returns to Magnolia for the first time since 2022 after playing on its neighboring course, Palm. This will be the first tournament played at Magnolia since it was renovated.

In its first MAAC Championship, Sacred Heart will look to build upon its success in the Northeast Conference (NEC). The Pios won four NEC titles, the last coming in 2022.
This success helped the Pioneers to be picked first in the MAAC Preseason Poll. SHU has lived up to that honor, racking up three wins and five top-five finishes over nine tournaments. Sacred Heart's three wins this year is triple last season's mark.
In recognition of SHU's excellence this year, three Pioneers were named All-MAAC First Team. The league recognized Ethan Phillips, Mike Rothberg and Pablo Lacayo on Wednesday morning. Phillips was the lone unanimous selection after tallying a win and a MAAC Golfer of the Week award. Rothberg also tallied a win and a Golfer of the Week honor. Lacayo maintained a 73.3 average on the year and finished a season-best third at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate.
Joining SHU's three All-MAAC honorees in this weekend's lineup, Yu Chan Ji Lim and Eoin Freeman will also tee off at the MAAC Championships. Lim has competed in eight tournaments and placed a season-high third at the Metropolitan Intercollegiate. Freeman owns a 77.2 average over 16 rounds as a senior.
