
Men's Golf Tied for First After Opening Round of MAACs

All five SHU golfers are separated by three strokes
LAKE BUENA VISTA, Fla. – The Sacred Heart University men's golf team is tied with Rider for the lead of the 2025 Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) after the first round of action on Thursday at Disney's Magnolia Golf Course in Lake Buena Vista, Fla.
The Pioneers and Broncs own identical team scores of 283 (-5) after the first 18 holes of action. Iona and Mount St. Mary's are tied for third at three-under 285, while Manhattan is fifth at even-par 288. Fairfield (+2) and Merrimack (+4) sit in sixth and seventh, ahead of Canisius (+9), Niagara (+13), Siena (+16) and Saint Peter's (+17) in eighth, ninth, 10th and 11th, respectively.
SHU has seen balanced scores between its lineup as all five golfers sit between -2 and even par. Yu Chan Ji Lim and Pablo Lacayoare lead the way in a tie for eighth. Both golfers carded rounds of 70 (-2) with Lim sinking five birdies and Lacayo four.
Ethan Phillips is one stroke off their pace at 71 (-1) to tie for 11th. The graduate transfer tallied four birdies to tie Lacayo for second on the team.
Rounding out the lineup are Eoin Freeman and Mike Rothberg in T15th. Both players are at even-par 72 after 18 holes of play.
Sacred Heart hits the course again tomorrow morning for the second round of the MAAC Championship.
