Ellis tallied his first career multi-point game
NIAGARA UNIVERSITY, N.Y. – The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team completed the road sweep of Niagara on Saturday evening, handing the Purple Eagles a 4-2 loss at Dwyer Arena behind a multi-point showing from defenseman Noah Ellis.
Records:
SHU: 11-7-2, 8-4-2 AHA
Niagara: 7-12-0, 4-7-0 AHA
How It Happened
The Pioneers kicked today's game off with a bang, as Gavin Bryant needed just 35 seconds to give the road team the lead. Following an outlet pass from Aiden VanRooyan, Stephane Huard took the puck and wrapped around the net before finding Bryant on the doorstep as he tipped a shot over the goaltender.
Unfortunately for SHU, the Purple Eagles scored a goal of their own at 3:12 to even things at 1-1, which is where things stood heading into the second period.
The Pioneers added to their lead 4:37 into the second period on a goal by Ray Fust. The senior used his quick reflexes to rebound a saved Ellis shot and fire it past the goalie.
SHU was not done scoring in the frame, adding another goal at 13:27 after an outstanding defensive effort. With Teagan Kendrick lying on the ground after making two big saves, the puck leaked out to Ethan Wolthers, who took it the distance of the ice before firing a wrister from just outside the right circle that found the top right corner to make it 3-1.
Ellis iced the game and capped a strong showing for the defenseman with an empty-net goal at 15:33 in the third. The senior fired a shot from behind his own goal line, lifting it over all defenders and into the empty net.
A late power play goal by Niagara set the final score at 4-2 Pioneers. Kendrick finished with 27 saves to win his fourth straight game. With the victory, the first year moves to 5-2-1 on the season.
