
Men’s Lacrosse Wins Second Straight

STATEN ISLAND, N.Y. — Three players recorded hat tricks to lead the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team to a 14-10 road victory over Wagner on Wednesday afternoon. First-year Jake Carney and senior Michael Moreschi each tallied four points as the Pioneers secured their second straight win.

How it happened:
Wagner jumped out to an early 2-0 lead before junior James Moran put the Pioneers on the board, sparking a four-goal run to give Sacred Heart a 4-2 advantage. The Seahawks responded with back-to-back goals to even the score at 4-4 heading into the second quarter.
Will Moulton and Jake Carney opened the second frame with consecutive goals to push the lead to 6-4. After Wagner pulled within one, Matt Pepe and Carney combined for three straight goals to extend the advantage to 9-5. Wagner added a late goal, but Sacred Heart carried a 9-6 lead into halftime.
Wagner outscored the Pioneers 2-1 in the third quarter, trimming the deficit to 10-8 entering the final period.
Pepe completed his hat trick at the 11:42 mark of the fourth quarter to give SHU a three-goal cushion. Wagner answered with back-to-back scores to make it 11-10, but Moulton, Moran, and Tommy Bull each found the back of the net to seal the 14-10 victory.
Senior goalkeeper Craig Daria made nine saves to earn his second win of the season. Sophomore Ryan Grove dominated at the faceoff X, going 19-for-35 and collecting 12 ground balls.
