
Men's Lacrosse Sweeps MAAC Weekly Awards

EDISON, N.J. – In just its second week of the season, the Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team swept the Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly awards. The Pioneers claimed all four honors after taking three of the four awards the previous week.
Senior Craig Daria was named Defensive Player of the Week, sophomore Ryan Grove earned Faceoff Specialist of the Week, first-year Jake Carney secured Rookie of the Week, and Matt Pepe collected his first career MAAC weekly honor as Offensive Player of the Week. Daria, Grove, and Carney each earned their respective awards for the second consecutive week.
Daria backstopped Sacred Heart to a 2-0 week with wins over Wagner (14-10) and Holy Cross (15-11). He made nine saves in the victory over Wagner before matching a career high with 16 saves against Holy Cross on Saturday. The senior goalkeeper also totaled five ground balls across the two games.
Grove continued his strong play at the faceoff X, going 30-for-48 (.625) during the Pioneers' two wins. He also collected 19 ground balls during the week.
Pepe paced the Sacred Heart offense, recording six goals in the 2-0 week. He netted a hat trick in each game, including a team-leading performance in the 14-10 win over Wagner. The redshirt sophomore also added three ground balls.
Carney totaled four points across the two victories, scoring a hat trick and adding an assist.
Sacred Heart returns home on Wednesday, Feb. 18, to host cross-town rival Fairfield University at 3:00 p.m. on Campus Field.
