VanRooyan tallied his first two-goal game
FAIRFIELD, Conn. – The Sacred Heart University men's ice hockey team cruised to a 5-1 win at the Martire Family Arena on Friday evening in the opener of an Atlantic Hockey America (AHA) series.

How It Happened
The first period ended scoreless despite the Pioneers leading the way in shots, 10-4. SHU had the best chance of the frame, as Felix Trudeau banged a shot off the post near the end of the period.
SHU broke the scoreless draw 3:54 into the second, as Aiden VanRooyan scored his first of the night. The Pioneers got the play started on the transition when Ray Fust brought the puck up, stopped, and found a trailing VanRooyan, who was lost by the defense.
VanRooyan added a second 14:24 into the second, setting the score at 2-0. Trudeau sent the first shot, sailing a rocket over the net before Fust sent the rebound to VanRooyan for the goal.
Noah Ellis capped the period with a third defenseman goal of the frame. The Urbandale, Iowa, native sent a rocket from the blueline top left corner at 18:48 to make it 3-0.
With firm control of the game, Marcus Joughin and Gavin Bryant both scored in the third to build a commanding 5-0 advantage. A goal late in the frame by the Lakers ice the final score at 5-1.
