ADD ANOTHER AHA ACCOLADE
With all-around stellar play for the month of January, first year goaltender Teagan Kendrick collected his second consecutive AHA Goaltender of the Month honor on Wednesday. Kendrick backstopped the Pioneers to a 5-3-1 record in the month, picking up wins over Robert Morris, Niagara and conference-leading Bentley. He finished January with a conference-best 301 saves, averaging 33.44 per game, with a .926 save percentage and a 2.65 goals against average. After Wednesday's announcement, Kendrick is a two-time Goaltender of the Month, a one-time Rookie of the Month and a two-time Rookie of the Week. He is also on the 2025-26 Mike Richter Award Watch List, vying to be named the top goaltender in the country.
KILLING IT ON THE PK
A strength of the Pioneers all season has been their penalty kill unit. The team heads into the weekend ranked ninth in the country with an 86.0% success rate while a man down. The Pios went a perfect 7-for-7 on the penalty kill against Air Force this past weekend, which included a five-minute PP for the Falcons. SHU didn't allow a shot on goal on Air Force's extended extra-man opportunity.
LAST TIME OUT
Sacred Heart suffered a pair of losses at Air Force this past weekend, falling in the first game 5-2 and the second game 2-0. Both games were closer than the final scores appeared, as both featured empty-net goals.
In the opener, SHU led 1-0 and 2-1 after goals by Felix Trudeau and Reid Pabich, respectively. Unfortunately for the Pios, Air Force scored with six seconds left in the second and in the first two minutes of the third to steal momentum and claim the win. In the rematch, the Falcons scored in the final 15 seconds of the first period, which stood as the lone goal until an empty-netter in the third. In total, Air Force scored five goals in the final minute of a period over the weekend.
SCOUTING THE LAKERS
Mercyhurst enters the weekend with a 3-21-2 record this season, while ranking 10th in the AHA with 11 points (3-13-2). All of the Lakers' victories have come in conference, as they split with Army and swept Niagara. Outside of league play, Mercyhurst has traveled to Michigan and North Dakota, who are currently ranked No. 1 and No. 3, respectively.
With their struggles, the Lakers rank near the bottom of DI in most statistical categories. Mercyhurst has the 63rd-ranked offense (1.50 gpg) and 59th-ranked defense (3.96 gpg).
The Lakers are led by freshmen Will Schumacher and Jacob LeBlanc, as Schumacher paces the team in goals (8) and points (13), while LeBlanc has a team-high 10 assists. Schumacher scored a point in all three of Mercyhurst's wins, including three points on a goal and two assists against Niagara on Jan. 17. Between the pipes, freshman Charles-Edward Gravel has started in 21 of the team's 26 games, with a 2-17-2 record with a 3.28 goals against average and a .903 save percentage.
ALL-TIME SERIES
SHU meets the Lakers for a 72nd on Friday. After sweeping Mercyhurst last season, the Pios took a 32-31-8 lead in the all-time series. Sacred Heart won the two games by an 8-4 margin. The Pios hold a 26-21-7 record against the Lakers in home games.
