EDISON, N.J. – The Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team earned three Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly awards, the league announced Monday. Senior Craig Daria was named Defensive Player of the Week, sophomore Ryan Grove earned Faceoff Specialist of the Week honors, and first-year Jake Carney was selected as Rookie of the Week.
Grove and Carney have now collected their respective awards four consecutive weeks, while Daria earns Defensive Player of the Week recognition for the third time this season.
Carney matched his career high with four points on three goals and one assist in Sacred Heart's 14-12 road victory over NJIT, extending the Pioneers' winning streak to five games. The rookie recorded his third hat trick of the season and fourth multi-point performance.
Daria anchored the defense with 11 saves in Saturday's win. He made a pair of clutch stops in the final 90 seconds to secure the victory and added four ground balls in the effort.
Grove continued his dominance at the faceoff X, going 16-for-21 (76%) while collecting a game-high eight ground balls.
Sacred Heart returns to action Saturday, March 7, at noon, opening MAAC play against Merrimack at Campus Field.
