Sacred Heart jumped out to an early lead in the top of the first inning as Peter Link launched a solo home run to give the Pioneers a 1–0 advantage.
On the mound, Bryan Matuschat recorded a strikeout in the first inning, but Bryant responded with a run in the second before adding two more in the third, where Matuschat picked up another strikeout. The Bulldogs continued to build momentum with three runs in the fourth inning.
Matuschat added another strikeout in the sixth, but Bryant extended its lead with three more runs in the frame. The Bulldogs capped the game in the seventh, scoring two runs to walk it off.
