EDISON, N.J. — The Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team had two Pioneers earn Metro Atlantic Athletic Conference (MAAC) weekly honors. Senior Craig Daria was named Defensive Player of the Week for the fifth time this season, while first-year Jake Carney earned Rookie of the Week for the sixth time this season.
Daria made 10 saves and collected two ground balls as the senior goalkeeper backstopped the Pioneers to an 18–6 victory over Canisius on Senior Day on Saturday. He has recorded 10 or more saves in seven of the team's eight games this season. His .570 save percentage ranks 11th in the country, while his 14.00 saves per game ranks fifth nationally.
Carney scored a team- and season-high four goals and added one assist for five points to lead the Pioneers' offense on Saturday. The five points marked his sixth multi-point performance of the season. He is tied for second on the team in goals (18) and points (23).
Sacred Heart begins a two-game week on Wednesday, March 25, traveling to Manhattan for a 4:00 p.m. matchup.
