HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. – The No. 20-ranked Sacred Heart University men's lacrosse team traveled to Hofstra on Saturday and handed the Pride a 15-13 defeat to become the first team in the country to earn 10 wins this season at 10-0.

How It Happened:
Hofstra opened today's scoring with a goal 38 seconds into the contest before SHU answered 25 seconds later. The Pios' first goal was a beauty, as Craig Daria caught the Pride defense napping on a clear attempt, sniping the opposing goal from his own restraining line. SHU rode that momentum to two more unanswered goals, the second being a behind-the-back shot from Jake Carney, to take a 3-1 advantage with 10:35 left in the first.
Hofstra answered with the last two goals of the first quarter and the opening goal of the second to pull ahead 4-3. SHU retaliated by scoring the next two goals, which were cancelled out by back-to-back strikes for the Pride. SHU had another answer up its sleeve, scoring the last two goals of the second to take a 7-6 lead into the halftime break.
The two teams traded goals for much of the third period, with SHU owning a 12-10 advantage going into the fourth after again ending a quarter with two unanswered goals.
SHU began the fourth by scoring three of the first four goals to build a commanding 15-11 advantage. The Pride scored twice over the final 3:24 but SHU was too far ahead, as the Pios clinched a 15-13 win to move to 10-0 on the season.
Daria made the most of his offense's production, finishing with 13 saves to earn his 10th win of the season. Daria's goal is the first for the senior netminder.
Today's win marks a first for the Pioneers against the Pride, as they came into today with a 0-14 mark in the all-time series against Hofstra.
