While at Trinity-Pawling/Arlington High School, Matt played football, baseball and hockey. He was captain and Defensive MVP of the football team, and was All-Conference and All-New England. Matt was also awarded a Coaches' Award for football. In 2008 and 2009, his team was the New England Prep School Champions
