Pioneers Open Spring Trip with 7-0 Win Over Wabash College

DORADO, PUERTO RICO (March 7, 2011) - The Sacred Heart men's tennis team opened their Spring Break trip to Puerto Rico with a 7-0 win over Wabash College on Monday afternoon. the Pioneers swept all six singles and all three doubles matches to inprove to 3-4 in dual match play this season.
Senior Kirill Kasyanov (Yonkers, NY) led the charge in singles play with a 6-2, 6-3 win over Peter Gunderman in his traditional #1 slot. Fellow senior Chris Ujkic (Mattituck, NY) posted a 6-3, 6-2 win over Daniel DelGado at #2. Senior Nick Mazzarese (Stonington, CT) took down Zach Lowry at #3, 6-3, 6-3.
Senior Michael Syer (Oakville, ON) beat Wade Miller, 6-0, 6-1 at #4 and senior Cole Conrad (Fairfield, CT) defeated Ricky Ritter, 6-0 and 6-2 at #5. Junior Chadd Sullo (Orange, CT) closed out the singles sweep with a 6-1, 6-1 win over Ian Leonard.
In doubles, Kasyanov and Ujkic beat Miller and DelGado, 8-3 at #1 while Conrad and Syer won by the same score at #2 over Gunderman and Ritter. The team of senior Jacob Miller (West Chesterfield, NH) and Mazzarese won 8-2 over Leonard and Evan Bayless.
The Pioneers continue their spring trip facing UConn and Bryant this week.
