SHU Loses Battle with Albany, 4-3

NEW HAVEN, CT - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team lost a hard fought 4-3 decision to Albany on Saturday night at the Yale University indoor facility. The Pioneers drop their third-straight dual match and fall to 1-3 on the year.
The Great Danes opened the match sweeping the double point. SHU regrouped and opened singles action with wins at #1 and #2. Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) beat Rocio Lopez Alberca 7-5 and 6-3 and Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) beat Livia Gherman, 6-3 and 6-1.
The Pioneers took a 3-1 lead thanks to a 6-1, 7-6 (5) win at #4 by senior Kristina Chao (Needham, MA)) over Cheryl Kukkonen. The Great Danes bounced back and took the match with the help of a pair of three-set wins. Kirsten Scott topped Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) at #2, 6-4, 0-6 and 6-3. Aubrey Brooks posted a 6-1, 6-0 win over Kristin Legenza () at #6.
Sarah Iannone gave Albany the match with a three-set victory over Delaney Downing (Englewood, CO). Iannone rebounded from dropping the first set 7-5 with a 7-6 (6) and 6-4 win.
SHU will host Siena at Yale on Saturday, February 25th.
