SHU Wins Third-Straight Beating South Dakota State, 4-3

ORLANDO, FL (March 5, 2012) - The Sacred Heart women's tennis team battled their way to a 4-3 win over South Dakota State on day two of their spring trip in Orlando. The Pioneers have won three-straight dual matches and evened their record at 4-4 on the year.
The Pioneers swept all three doubles matches to set the tone winning the doubles point. Seniors Kate Donnelly (Centerville, MA) and Kristina Chao (Needham, MA) opened with an 8-6 win at #1 over Brooke Henry and Jenny Blackburne.
Sophomore Gabi Kaldan (New Brunswick, NJ) and senior Delaney Downing (Centennial, CO) won 8-4 over Megan McDougall and Bryna Nasenbeny. The freshmen duo of Nicole Rydzewski (Maspeth, NY) and Haley Dubits (Andover, NJ) finished the sweep with an 8-7 win over Natalia Medina and Anna Botzet at #3.
The Pioneers sealed the win by splitting the six singles matches with the Jackrabbits. SHU won at #2, #3 and #5 singles. Rydewski won a three-set match with Blackburne, 6-1, 4-6, and 6-4. Donnelly won at #3 over Henry, 6-1 and 6-2. Downing won a three-set battle at #5, topping Medina after dropping the first set 6-4. Downing rallied for a 7-6 and 6-4 win.
SHU continues their Florida trip on Tuesday taking on Creighton at 12 noon.
